G F Tomlinson, a family run construction company based in Derby has officially become the first company to sponsor an Ashgate Hospicecare Nurse.
Thanks to the support of G F Tomlinson, Ashgate Hospicecare will now be able to provide more care and reach more patients across the county in their own homes.
Andy Hughes, Director and General Manager at G F Tomlinson recently visited Ashgate Hospicecare and saw first-hand the invaluable work the team deliver to patients and their families. Following his visit, G F Tomlinson have chosen to support this worthwhile cause and get involved in their fundraising events as part of their commitment to investing back in the local community.
Andy Sewards, G F Tomlinson Group Managing Director, said “Sponsoring a nurse is one of the best ways we felt we could help make a real difference to people in our local community and we are looking forward to organising various events throughout the year to raise much-needed funds to sponsor an Ashgate Hospicecare nurse.”
Jackie Millington, a Registered General Nurse at Ashgate Hospicecare, said “I don’t usually get to meet and personally thank our supporters so I was thrilled to have the pleasure of meeting everyone at G F Tomlinson.”
“As a nurse I have the privilege of seeing every day the difference nursing care makes to our patients and their loved ones. Over 50% of our patients admitted to the Inpatient Unit are discharged home once we have managed their symptoms, pain and diet.”
“Getting a patient home, where they want to be, is incredibly rewarding. Your support will enable us to increase the number of nurses in our community, ensuring our patients receive the hospice care they desperately need to stay at home. Thank you so much for your kind support!”
Ashgate Hospicecare’s community nurses make 4,500 visits to patients in their own homes each year. This is a lot of visits but there are many people who the hospice are not able to reach and not able to providing symptom, pain management, reassurance and care to. By sponsoring a nurse G F Tomlinson will be helping Ashgate Hospicecare nurses be there for more patients, enabling them to stay in their own homes, which is where they want to be.
Bill McQuinn, was cared for by Ashgate Hospicecare in the hospice and in his own home which was extremely important to him. He said, “Being able to go home has meant so much to me.”
“I was with my family and my wonderful dog and that is all thanks to Ashgate. I really can’t put into words how wonderful the nurses are, they have done absolutely everything for me.” Bill sadly passed away late last year, at home where he wanted to be.
Ashgate Hospicecare want to be there for every person who needs hospice care, whether that’s at the hospice or in their own home.
