Chesterfield Mayor with Patient

Local hospice launches its first ‘Care for a Cuppa’ event

On Monday 23rd January, Ashgate Hospicecare officially launched their new ‘Care for a Cuppa’ event with a little help from the Mayor and Mayoress of Chesterfield.

The launch, which was based in Ashgate Hospicecare’s Day Hospice, hosted numerous cakes and beverages throughout the morning thanks to kind donations from Tesco Metro, staff and volunteers.

This February, the Hospice is asking everyone in North Derbyshire to show their support by holding a ‘Care for a Cuppa’ event. Christine Selden, Community Fundraising Manager at Ashgate Hospicecare, said: “I am delighted that the Mayor and Mayoress are supporting our Care for a Cuppa appeal. This is the first time we have run this appeal and we hope the people of North Derbyshire will get behind it and hold their own ‘Care for a Cuppa’ event.”

“There are so many easy ways to fundraise; organise a coffee morning with cakes or, for a more upmarket event, an afternoon tea with sandwiches and scones and invite family, friends or members of the local community to attend. The events can be held anywhere, in someone’s home or at a school, workplace or community centre. Whatever the size of the event, every pound raised will help provide vital hospice services to the people of North Derbyshire.”

Steve Brunt, the Mayor of Chesterfield, said: “We were absolutely delighted to be invited to the launch of Ashgate Hospicecare’s ‘Care for a Cuppa’ campaign. We were invited to the event by Christine Selden, Community Fundraising Manager who introduced us to various members of staff and volunteers with whom we enjoyed a lovely cuppa or two and some quite delicious cake.”

“Thank you so much to all the staff and volunteers at Ashgate Hospicecare who undertake such tremendous work for our community throughout the year.”

Daryl Holne, a patient in Ashgate Hospicecare’s Day Hospice, said: “We are looking forward to holding our own ‘Care for a Cuppa’ event in the Day Hospice. We all love a great cup of tea!”
