Local hospice signs up to the Mindful Employer Initiative

Ashgate Hospicecare is thrilled to announce they have signed up to the ‘Working Towards Charter for Employers who are Positive About Mental Health’.

The MINDFUL EMPLOYER initiative, which has had over 1500 employer signatories signed up to it since it began in 2004, provides businesses and organisations with easier access to information and support for staff who experience stress, anxiety, depression or other mental health conditions.

Matt Corbishley, Director of HR and Estates at Ashgate Hospicecare, said, “I’m very proud that Ashgate Hospicecare is now part of the national Mindful Employer initiative.”

“We take a holistic approach to the care we deliver to our patients taking into account their physical, psychological, spiritual and practical needs. Looking after our people and their mental well-being is essential and has always been a priority for us. Signing up to the Charter for Employers, who are Positive About Mental Health, is an important step which demonstrates our commitment to the mental well-being of our staff and volunteers.”

“1 in 4 people across the UK will experience a mental health issue each year, so increasing awareness of mental health issues at work and supporting our staff to make it easier to discuss mental health in the workplace is crucial.”

“There’s still a lot of myth busting to do; mental health (just like physical health) issues can affect any of us at any time and for many different reasons. For those people who are affected, we want to ensure they get the support and understanding they need and should expect.”

Dame Carol Black, Expert Advisor on Health and Work in the Department of Health, said, “It is vitally important that we work in partnership across sectors and disciplines to improve the health and well-being of our working-age population and I think partnership-building has been central to the success of MINDFUL EMPLOYER.”

‘I would like to congratulate everyone who has contributed to MINDFUL EMPLOYER in that time and I look forward to seeing the campaign continue to evolve.”
