Local hospice to launch first ‘Hospice at Home Café’ during this year’s Hospice Care Week

Hospice Care Week, which takes place between 9th and 13th October, is fast approaching and Chesterfield based hospice Ashgate Hospicecare are encouraging the local community to get involved and find out more about their local hospice.

The café, which will host several members of staff from different departments at the hospice, will be based at 22 Vicar Lane in Chesterfield Town Centre during Hospice Care Week on 11th and 12th October between 10am and 2-30pm.

Esther Preston, Director of Fundraising and Marketing at Ashgate Hospicecare, said, “We encourage everyone in the local community to come down to our Hospice at Home Café and find out more about the hospice.

“We want to shine a light on the full extent of our services as many people are aware of the amazing work at the hospice but many don’t realise most of our work is caring for people at home and we think chatting over a slice of cake and a cup of tea or coffee is the best way for people to find out more about their local hospice.”

Alison Ford, whose husband, Mark, was cared for by Ashgate Hospicecare, highlights how the hospice really made a difference for her. She said, “For us, the Hospice kind of tracked our journey and came in and out of our lives as and when we’ve needed it, it’s sorted us when we’ve needed it and it’s a good thing for people to understand that it’s not just one thing, it’s all things.

“Ashgate Hospicecare is a community resource that you may need or your family may need but it is also something that really does make a difference to people’s lives. It’s that calmness when everything feels as if it’s all falling apart.”

The theme for this year is ‘We are hospice care’ and Ashgate Hospicecare will be highlighting the many and varied aspects of hospice care and what it can mean to people, their families and communities.

From nurses to volunteers, chefs to chaplains, corporate partners to carers, the theme ‘We are hospice care’ is about celebrating everyone involved in providing and supporting hospice care.
