Bringing home to the Hospice with new family room thanks to Designer Contracts

Last week, Ashgate Hospicecare proudly opened their rejuvenated family room thanks to the amazing support of Designer Contracts.

Designer Contracts, the UK’s largest flooring contractor, went above and beyond to support their local Hospice, redesigning the family room and creating a home from home for patients and families of North Derbyshire.

Ali Ward-Foster, Partnerships Manager at Ashgate Hospicecare, said: “We know that the environment plays a big part in how people feel at the Hospice. The care our nurses provide was rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission and with the help of local businesses, like Designer Contracts, we have been able to create an outstanding space to match that care.”

The generosity didn’t stop at Designer Contracts, other local businesses also wanted to support the renovation project; Howdens Joinery kindly provided a beautiful brand-new kitchen, John Plant MBE of GW Price offered who paid for the decoration and Ben Wood Fire & Security completed the new electrical works. The support of these wonderful businesses has saved the Hospice thousands of pounds that can now be redirected to patient care.

Each year, Ashgate Hospicecare cares for over 400 patients on their Inpatient Unit and over 20,000 family members and friends visit. On average, patients stay on the Inpatient Unit for around two weeks and during this time, the patients’ families often move into the Hospice. This amazing refurbished space is so important to the people who visit the Hospice, and with the help and support of amazing businesses, the Hospice is now able to offer a homely, comfortable, modern and functional space that families want to spend time in.

Peter Kelsey, Chief Executive at Designer Contracts, said: “Designer Contracts are delighted to be able to give this support to Ashgate Hospicecare and their patients and families. Ashgate have such a caring and dedicated team of people that we just had to support them in any way that we could.”

We had a number of anonymous comments left by patients and their families since the family room was unveiled last week, including “What a wonderful space for relatives and patients alike to spend a few minutes of normality at a stressful and difficult time in their lives” and “It is a beautiful, calming, relaxing space and an oasis of calm. My daughter said she would love it if it was our living room.”
