#ChallengeDerbyshire, the business fundraising initiative that supports Ashgate Hospicecare, Blythe House Hospicecare and Helen’s Trust, has raised an astonishing amount totalling over £800,000 for patients and their families across North Derbyshire since it was launched in 2015 with the continued aim to raise a million pounds in total.
On Thursday 28th March, representatives from #ChallengeDerbyshire presented a cheque to Ashgate Hospicecare for £140,000 which will go directly towards delivering vital patient care. Not only that, on Friday 29th March at Eliot Kennedy’s 50th Birthday Celebration at Sheffield City Hall nearly £100,000 was raised, the majority of which came to #ChallengeDerbyshire. The star-studded night featured performances from Alfie Boe, Gary Barlow, Heather Small, Kenny Thomas, Mark Owen, John Reilly, John Parr and many more.
David Hopkins, CEO of M Markovitz Ltd and co-founder of #ChallengeDerbyshire, said: “We are so proud to cover all the costs of running this initiative. 100% of the money we raise goes directly to the three amazing charities we support, enabling them to reach more patients and their families in North Derbyshire when they need specialist hospice care.”
Since the launch of the initiative, #ChallengeDerbyshire has been raising money through the generous support of local businesses and by hosting a number of different events. A few major highlights were the #ChallengeDerbyshire Charity Ball in 2019, which raised over £170,000, the Driving Day in association with the Star Trust which raised £51,700, and the #ChallengeDerbyshire Business Walk which has raised an incredible £80,000 over three years.”
Barbara-Anne Walker, Chief Executive at Ashgate Hospicecare, said: “We can’t put into words how grateful everyone at Ashgate Hospicecare is for the amazing support and kindness of those involved in #ChallengeDerbyshire. The initiative has made an enormous contribution to the Hospice and difference to the care that patients and their families across North Derbyshire have been able to receive.
To have raised over £800,000 for all three charities is simply outstanding. #ChallengeDerbyshire’s support is giving local people a chance to die with dignity and respect, something that everybody deserves. It means a huge amount to all of us at Ashgate to have your support.”
