Throughout May, several local solicitors across North Derbyshire will be providing a Will making service in return for their fee being donated to Ashgate Hospicecare.
Make a Will Month offers members of the public the opportunity to discuss and have simple Wills written or updated in return for their fee being donated to Ashgate Hospicecare. This awareness-raising month will be supported by local solicitors including Banner Jones, Buchanan & Co, Chartwell Green, Elliot Mather, Etherington’s Wills and Probate, Flint Bishop, Grayson’s and Paul Brook Solicitors.
1 in 5 of Ashgate Hospicecare’s patients are cared for as a direct result of money being left in a Will. Pam MacColl, from Chesterfield, shares her story about leaving a gift in her Will to thank Ashgate for the care they gave to her husband, Duncan.
“My husband died at the Hospice after battling cancer and Parkinson’s for many years. We did our best to cope by ourselves, but towards the end we needed the support of Ashgate Hospicecare.
I wrote Ashgate Hospicecare into my Will because I wanted to leave something for all they’ve done for us: for the way they looked after Duncan, for all the care they gave me and my family, for making those last few weeks easier to cope with, and for all the counselling and aftercare. It’s not just about the services we received, we really felt that all the staff went above and beyond for us. They were wonderful.
It’s a legacy, it’s something that you can leave knowing that you’ll be helping somebody when you’ve gone. Although I believe it’s important to give while you’re here as well, this is something you can do very easily, and it will make a difference to somebody else who needs hospice care.”
