Freddie Brassington, aged 9 from Walton in North Derbyshire, has gone above and beyond for Ashgate Hospicecare and has raised over £800 (so far) through various fundraising events over the past few years.
Freddie has embarked upon a number of events ranging from a Care for a Cuppa event and number of collections at Sainsbury’s and Morrison’s to his latest endeavour, a 20-mile bike ride from Poolsbrook Country Park through to Rother Valley and back again in memory of Kimberley Trickett who sadly passed away at Ashgate Hospicecare in 2009.
Kimberley was 20 when she died, and this is why Freddie wanted to do a 20-mile bike ride in her memory. He said: “I always like to help everyone and I enjoy raising money for a great place like Ashgate Hospicecare.”
Freddie’s mum, Sarah Barker who is Manager at Ashgate Hospicecare’s Matlock shop, said: “I can’t put into words how proud I am of Freddie and the amazing challenges and initiatives he has partaken over the last few years.
“He is now at an age where he understands what a hospice is and the fact it provides end of life care. With Kimberley, it struck him how very young she was when she passed away and he just wanted to make a difference, hence the 20 miles to represent the fact she was only 20 years old when she died.
“From working for Ashgate Hospicecare and knowing the care they provide first-hand, I think it’s amazing Freddie has decided to be a part of it and help raise this amazing amount of money. We can’t wait for the 6th and see what he has next in store.”
Carl Jones, Fundraising Manager at Ashgate Hospicecare, said: “What an amazing little lad Freddie is! We are so proud of his achievements so far and to set himself the goal of cycling such a long way at his age is certainly his biggest challenge yet.
To raise such an amazing amount of money for the hospice just shows the character he is. Without supporters like Freddie, we simply wouldn’t be able provide the support to patients and families across North Derbyshire.”
Freddie will undertake his 20-mile bike ride on the 6th October, so if you would like to donate to amazing challenge and raise vital funds for patients and families across North Derbyshire, please visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/robert-brassington1.
