Local company saves Ashgate Hospicecare vital funds through buying five wheelchairs for patients

Ashgate Hospicecare are thrilled to announce that local equipment specialists, Penny Hydraulics, have just purchased five wheelchairs and specialist cushions for patients saving the hospice hundreds of pounds.

The company, which is based in Clowne in North Derbyshire, are an award-winning UK manufacturer of lifting equipment and have saved the hospice a significant amount of money which will go directly to patients and their families

Daniel Casey, Marketing Manager at Penny Hydraulics, said: “It is our privilege to support such a valuable resource to our local community. Being a local family run firm with strong roots in the area, we feel it is important to work with organisations like Ashgate Hospicecare to enable them to continue providing a high-quality and much-needed service to people in North Derbyshire.

The wheelchairs will enable previously room-bound patients to access and enjoy the fantastic facilities and grounds that Ashgate has to offer with their friends and family, offering some comfort at a very difficult time. If we can help to improve just one person’s time at Ashgate, then the donation is money well spent!”

The new wheelchairs will be used by patients staying on the ward to enable them to visit the café, spend time with family in the Garden Room or venture outside in the beautiful gardens in which the hospice is set. The wheelchairs will also provide patients attending the Day Hospice with access outside, so they can take part in Horticultural Therapy which helps support physical and mental wellbeing. Specialist cushions that help to prevent pressure sores and aid circulation have also been purchased by Penny Hydraulics to ensure that patients are comfortable.

Sarah Kerry, Day Hospice Sister at Ashgate Hospicecare, said: “We can’t thank Penny Hydraulics enough for this amazing donation and their continuous support.
The money saved by this generous gift will allow 18 patients to attend our Day Hospice where they will have access to each of the hospice’s services and the vital care and support they need. With the support of businesses, like Penny Hydraulics, we are able to continue to provide the vital care to our patients and families who need us the most.
