Santa Clauses are coming to town! Join a Santa Fun Run this Christmas and make a difference to local people who need hospice care

This Christmas, local companies Martial Arts club, Unit 1 and Cannon Events are joining together for Chesterfield’s biggest Christmas events, the Clay Cross Santa Fun Run (taking place on 8th December at Sharley Park) and Chesterfield Santa Fun Run (taking place 22nd December at Queens Park). This is a perfect opportunity to get the whole family involved in dressing up as Santa and raising much-needed funds for Ashgate Hospicecare.

Dave Cartawick of Unit 1 Fitness & Marshall Arts has been supporting the hospice for many years and knows the importance of giving back to the local community. Dave said, “This is the fourth year we will be sponsoring the Santa Fun Runs. They’re absolutely amazing events where we see over 1,000 Santas all running through the park together! It’s a good feeling to know that every single person who raises sponsorship money is helping someone in need of hospice care.”

John Cannon of Cannon Events has worked closely with Dave in organising these unique events over the years. John said, “The care provided by Ashgate Hospicecare is second to none. You can’t ask for more for your family member or friend than to have compassionate and dignified care right to the end. I also know that the bereavement support they offer can be truly life-changing for those who have lost loved ones.

It’s a pleasure to be able to do what I love and put on these events that bring our community together for a great local cause. The Fun Runs gather momentum year on year, and the Santa Fun Runs in particular are great fun for all the family. The events are open to people of all ages and abilities and it’s not necessary to run at all, you can walk if you like! There is a 1.5k and a 5k distance to choose from and the event will be fully marshalled for your safety.”

Carl Jones, Fundraising Manager at Ashgate Hospicecare, added: “We’re really grateful to everyone who dons their black boots and pulls on a beard to raise sponsorship money as part of these events. Our incredible staff and volunteers continue to provide care and support throughout the Christmas period at a time when patients and their families rely on us to provide a little bit of normality at an incredibly difficult time. A huge thanks to John, Dave and everyone involved in putting on these events to enable festive fundraisers to raise vital sponsorship.”
