Patients at Ashgate Hospicecare in Chesterfield can enjoy spending more time outdoors thanks to resurfaced patio’s which has been made possible by landscape contractors, NT Killingley.
Ashgate Hospicecare, which provides specialist end-of-life care to patients with complex palliative care needs across North Derbyshire, is now able to open the patio doors to patients’ bedrooms to allow for time outside.
This will enable families to visit and meet-up outside, which has become increasingly important during the COVID-19 pandemic. The new outdoor areas are made with resin bonded gravel which is slip resistant for added safety.
The Chesterfield company undertook the work free of charge, saving the charity £11,000.
Barbara-Anne Walker, Chief Executive at Ashgate Hospicecare, said: “We are thrilled by this support from NT Killingley.
“Particularly during a year where we have seen our income hit by Coronavirus, resulting in a shortfall of £2.4 million. Yet despite this drop in our income, we have seen demand for our services increase. This demand will continue to grow, especially during the winter months.
“That is why we are extremely grateful for the generosity of supporters like NT Killingley, who allow us to provide added comfort to our patients and their families.”
Matt Killingley, Director at NT Killingley, said: “It is a great pleasure for Killingleys to be able to support such a well renowned charity such as Ashgate Hospice, who do great work for the local community.”
