Chesterfield’s Ashgate Hospicecare, which provides specialist palliative and end of life care to adults and their families across North Derbyshire, has named Vertu Toyota Chesterfield as the new sponsor of its much-loved Sparkle Night Walk.
This important fundraising event sees families, friends and neighbours come together to raise thousands of pounds in support of the charity, by marching 10K through the streets of Chesterfield each and every year. Even with COVID-19 restrictions preventing people from meeting in person this year, the event moved to a virtual platform and instead people raised money in their own homes with children and even pets joining in too.
The past four years’ events have been kindly sponsored by local building and plumbing business, Markovitz. In that time, over £780,000 has been raised for Ashgate Hospicecare. David Hopkins, CEO at M Markovitz Ltd, also raised money for the hospice under his own steam by setting up #ChallengeDerbyshire.
But the torch has now been officially handed to Vertu Toyota Chesterfield, which is based on Lockoford Lane. The local new and used car dealership has avidly supported the hospice and the events it holds for many years – from supplying branded vans and support vehicles, to handing out sweets and refreshments to participants of the Sparkle Night Walk.
In fact, in 2019 alone, Vertu Toyota raised over £10,000 for Ashgate Hospicecare through sponsoring an open air cinema event, supporting the annual Golf Day and its staff getting involved with other fundraising events.
Even this year, when they couldn’t be situated at the halfway point of the Sparkle Night Walk handing out free Mars Bars like usual, the fantastic team there entered as a workplace and did a socially distanced walk of their own.
Charlotte Gratton, Partnership Manager at Ashgate Hospicecare, said: “Our Sparkle Night walks grow in numbers and amount raised every single year. Markovitz has been a key part of that, their support the past four years has been invaluable and we can’t thank them enough.
“At the same time, we are thrilled that the Vertu Toyota Chesterfield team has decided to come onboard. As main sponsors for the 2021 and 2022 Sparkle Night Walk, they will be involved in financially supporting the event so more money can be raised for patient care, promoting the event so even more people sign up, taking part themselves and volunteering to keep the walkers safe and cheer them over the finish line in their support vehicles.”
David Littlewood, General Manager at Vertu Toyota Chesterfield, added: “As a business, it’s incredibly important that we support our local community and Ashgate Hospicecare is a very worthy cause.
“I have been to the wards myself, and have seen first-hand the amazing work that the organisation does. It’s a cause close to my – and many other people in the dealership’s – heart, as many of us have had personal experiences with the hospice.
“Charities like Ashgate need support now, more than ever, as their funds are hit by the impact of Covid-19. I’m very much looking forward to developing our relationship over the next two years, and working with them to ensure it can continue to provide the vital care it does today.”
