The Chairman of North East Derbyshire District Council will help raise funds for Ashgate over the next 12 months after choosing the hospice as his charity of the year.
Councillor Martin Thacker MBE, who is also Vice-Chairman of Chesterfield Football Club and Director of Chesterfield Football Community Trust, was elected as the 35th chairman of the local authority for the coming civic year at a recent meeting.
He and his consort, Jean Spencer, have kindly chosen to support Ashgate in an effort to help the charity fund its vital care for families across North Derbyshire.
As part of his fundraising for the upcoming year, North East Derbyshire District Council has already organised a talent show and is inviting local people to take part.
Upon being elected as Chairman of the Council, Councillor Thacker, who also represents the Brampton and Walton ward where Ashgate’s Old Brampton site is based, said: “Everyone is aware of the excellent work that the charity does in providing specialist palliative and end-of-life care, as well as support to adults and their families across North Derbyshire. I hope people will support me in helping them to make a difference.”
Carl Jones, Fundraising Manager at Ashgate Hospicecare said: “We can’t thank Councillor Thacker enough for choosing Ashgate as his charity of the year during his term as Chairman of the Council.
“We’re all looking forward to working with him over the next 12 months and can’t wait to see some of the exciting fundraisers and events he has planned to help support Ashgate.
“Councillor Thacker’s support means we’ll be able to care for patients and their families when they need us most across North Derbyshire.”
As well as helping the charity, all those who enter the talent show will be in with the chance of winning a £250 cash prize, trophy and the chance to perform at a Chesterfield Football Club match day.
