Complementary therapy is a non-medical intervention that can be used in conjunction with conventional medicine, or on its own, to promote the health and well being of patients with advanced disease.
Ashgate Hospicecare offers reflexology, body massage, Indian head massage, reiki and aromatherapy to inpatients and patients attending the Day Hospice.
Complementary therapies may help with symptom control and reduce some of the undesirable effects of treatments. They can also help to restore energy levels, reduce stress levels and anxiety, and give a time for reflection which can help to support physical and emotional well-being.
Complementary therapies should not be regarded as an alternative to medical treatments prescribed by your consultant or GP but rather as a helpful addition to those treatments.
