Who are we and what do we do?
We are group of experienced Complementary Therapists who have specialised in palliative care. We are part of the Supportive Care Team at Ashgate Hospicecare and are based in the main Hospice building. Our service is available to Inpatients, Day Hospice attendees and to participants in the recently bereaved groups. The complementary therapy treatments that we provide can be used alongside conventional medicine or on their own.
How can we help?
The treatments we can offer at present are Massage, Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Indian Head Massage, Holistic Facial and Reiki. Complementary therapies should not be regarded as an alternative to medical treatments prescribed by a Consultant or GP but rather as a helpful addition to those treatments offering symptom relief. Our patients staff tell us (and it is also now widely accepted amongst many within the conventional medical / scientific community) that these treatments can help with pain, sleeplessness, panic, low mood, breathlessness and nausea.
We also provide training sessions to colleagues, community groups and deliver teaching sessions at Derby University.
During this time of uncertainty…
We are keeping in touch with our patients by phone to provide extra support at this time of crisis and acute isolation.
Any patient who attends the hospice, either inpatient or out-patient can be referred to the service by their key clinical worker. They will fill out a referral form and send this over to the team.
Those who are members of the recently bereaved group are invited to self-refer for Complementary Therapy.
