Supportive Care Volunteer

Time commitment: One morning or afternoon each week. The minimum commitment we ask for is 6 months due to the nature of the role.

Role description: To be part of a small team of staff and volunteers, providing emotional and practical support to patients, their families and carers

What the role may involve?

  • Building positive, supportive relationships with service users
  • Practical support to achieve independence and quality of life
  • Assistance to access appointments
  • Helping service users to get out of the house, e.g. going to a café, library, or for a walk
  • Taking part in shared activities and hobbies

What kind of people are we looking for?

  • Someone that is sociable and friendly
  • Is non-judgemental in their approach
  • Understands the importance of boundaries in a supportive relationship
  • Is consistent, dependable and reliable
  • Has a good understanding of confidentiality, is tactful and diplomatic
  • Understands the importance of representing the hospice within the community
  • Can give a regular commitment and would let us know if they are unavailable
  • Will complete and attend our Essential Training, within the first 8 weeks
  • Will abide by the policies and procedures of Ashgate Hospicecare
