Our Trustees

Nicholas Jeffrey (Chair)

I’m Nicholas Jeffrey and I joined Ashgate as Chair of the Board of Trustees in April 2019.

I will be bringing expertise from my successes in business and my previous roles as Chair of Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust and Chair of Sheffield Hallam University’s Board of Governors.

I live in Eyam with my wife and have four grown up children and ten grandchildren.

Nigel Myhill

I’m Nigel Myhill and I became a Trustee at Ashgate Hospicecare in January 2019.

My background is in Estates and Facilities for over 30 years within the NHS. I have also been a board level Director since 2005, covering mental health, primary care and acute care. In addition to this, I have worked in the Australian health system and my last post in the NHS was Director of Estates and Facilities in a large integrated NHS Trust in London. I now work part-time as a self employed management consultant.

I am a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Manager, my qualifications include MBA, MSc and BSc.

I am proud to be a Trustee of such a wonderful caring organisation and I hope to use my skills and experience to contribute to the Ashgate Hospicecare.

Andrew Archibald

Andrew Archibald

I was appointed as a Trustee in July 2015 and am honoured to have been asked to join Ashgate Hospicecare.

I am currently Head of Customer Experience at Co-op Insurance and have over 15 years of operations and customer care experience across insurance, hospitality and healthcare sectors. I began my career in the NHS, working in hospitals across South Yorkshire and the ambulance service. Before joining the Co-op, I was a management consultant at GE Healthcare and Director of Customer Experience at Travelodge Hotels. In both of these roles I led change programmes centred on improving the efficiency and quality of services for customers and patients. My role at GE allowed me to work across organisations in Europe and the Middle East which was an amazing challenge learning how to work across different cultures.

Outside of work, my 3 children keep me very busy. We try to get out to enjoy the great Derbyshire countryside as much as possible – camping, cycling and walking. Like many dads, I now pursue my sporting ambition through my son as I coach one of the junior teams at Tupton Rugby Club.

Dr Steve Bradder

Steve Bradder

I’m Steve Bradder and I became a Trustee of Ashgate Hospicecare in 2012. I am a scientist by training, owned and developed businesses in hospitality and then went into property management and development. I’ve also managed services in secondary care, was a director of a large GP medical practice and I am now a senior manager within NHS England.

My key qualifications include PhD Cancer Research, MSc. Molecular Pathology and Toxicology, BSc. (Hons) Applied Biology, Good Clinical Practice, Information Governance certification and a Certificate in Healthcare Finance. I am also a member of the Healthcare Governance Committee.

I really enjoy working with the volunteers of Ashgate Hospicecare and ensuring that the extremely high clinical standards set by the hospice are met and usually exceeded.

My hobbies include cooking, football and being a National Trust member.

Penny Brooks

Penny Brooks

I’m Penny Brooks and I joined Ashgate as a Trustee in 2014.

My background is as an experienced NHS Chief Nurse having worked for over 40 years within NHS Trusts, Foundation Trusts and commissioning organisations.

I have held Board level positions since 2001, the most recent of which was as Chief Nurse of Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group. I am also a trained Executive Coach and Mentor with an active interest in the education and training of the workforce to support the delivery of excellent services for patients.

In December 2017, I retired from the NHS and now am a Director of an independent consultancy providing leadership development and coaching support to public sector organisations.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent successful treatment in 2012. I use my personal experience along with my clinical and professional background, within my role of Trustee. That role includes being a Vice Chair and chairing the Healthcare Governance Committee. I really enjoy being part of such an amazing organisation and feel privileged that we have these services within our community.

I live in Stanton in Peak with my husband Neill and our 2 dogs.

Andrew Dukelow

Andrew Dukelow

Previously, I was an apprentice trained sheet metal worker, had a career in the Army and had various business roles. I am currently owner and Director of Sanitaryware Supplies Ltd. I was also previously Managing Director of Franke Sissons Ltd and a Governor at Whittington Green School.

My qualifications include HND Engineering, ADip. Business Management and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA).

I enjoy contributing to the development of Ashgate Hospicecare through my knowledge of business and being involved in a number of subcommittees.

In my own time, I work in my wife’s equestrian business and enjoy taking on fundraising challenges.

Malcolm Pope

I’m Malcolm Pope and I joined Ashgate Hospicecare as a Trustee in 2015. I am also a member of the Finance Advisory Group.

I am one of nine Partners at Shorts Chartered Accountants, which has offices in both Chesterfield and Sheffield and employs 90 members of staff in the local area. I have been with the firm for in excess of 15 years and I specialise in presenting financial information to local owner-managed businesses in an easy to understand manner and using this information to help management make informed strategic decisions.

I am a qualified Chartered Accountant and Auditor as well as a registered and approved coach for GrowthAccelerator.

I am looking forward to using the skills I have gained in my commercial career to date to contribute to the development of Ashgate Hospicecare.

I live in Chesterfield with my wife, Liz, and our two children. My spare time is occupied with the ever-increasing amounts of activities that our children wish to undertake!

Daniel Ratchford

I’m Daniel Ratchford, and have been a Trustee at Ashgate Hospicecare since July 2015.

I am Chief Executive of Quality Health, a health and social care consultancy that specialises in measuring and understanding patient and service user experience. We employ around 50 people at our head offices in Chesterfield, but our work regularly takes me around the UK and further afield.
